Privacy

Privacy

Short version: the log is read once, then deleted. No accounts, no email, no tracking cookies. The public pages show one labelled banner ad (see Advertising).

The Crash Reader

The file or text you send is read on the server to build the report, then discarded. An uploaded file sits in the server's temporary upload folder only for the moment it takes to read it, then it is deleted. It is not written to our database or kept. The report goes back to your browser only.

The Stability Notebook

Only if you press Save, the report's summary is stored: counts per day, stop codes, update numbers and error codes, and service and program names, plus the computer name and note you type. Event messages, user names, file paths and the computer's network name are never stored. A notebook is opened only by its private link; we keep a scrambled (salted hash) form of that link, so we cannot open it from our side. Delete a notebook and it is gone at once; nightly database backups age out after 14 days. A notebook not opened for 400 days, with no running Pass, is deleted.

What else we keep

To limit abuse we count reads and new notebooks per address per day, storing a salted hash of the address, never the address itself; these counts are deleted after two days. The web server keeps standard access logs for security. No analytics services; fonts and the site’s own scripts are served from this site. The one outside script is the banner ad described under Advertising, which also counts one page view per page as a daily total.

Cookies

Two, both needed for the site to work, neither for tracking: one holds your notebook's private key so this browser can open it (kept up to 400 days, or until you press Leave or delete the notebook), and one is a security token for forms (it expires after 24 hours). There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

Advertising

Since October 17, 2026, the home page, the Crash Reader’s upload page, the stop code lookup, How it reads, Pricing, About and Sources each show one banner ad below the page, from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. Reports, your notebook and its printable sheets, this page and the terms show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests; never the page’s own address, your log or anything you typed.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, page requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.
